At Bluebuck we believe that too. That's why we ask ourselves at every step in our design and manufacturing process: How can we minimize our environmental footprint? Bluebuck is committed to producing a truly green product.
The high-quality cotton for our underwear is grown organically, so no synthetic fertilizers are used, which degrade soil quality and promote the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides produce a large amount of CO2 when they are manufactured, so we simply don't use any.
Better organic soil quality ensures that the soil also retains water better, which reduces water consumption.
When the harvest is ready, our cotton is not harvested with heavy, environmentally harmful machines, but by hand.
Unlike many brands that are "Made in Europe", which usually just refers to where the product is assembled, all of our components are produced in Europe. The fabric is knitted, then cut and assembled in Portugal, with the organic cotton coming from Turkey. Even the finer details are produced in Europe: our cuffs are made in Austria and the labels are designed in Italy.
After assembly, all products are transported by road, which produces around 75% less CO2 than gas-guzzling aircraft.
Selecting sustainable fabrics is just the beginning of the process in making our products.
We are proud to select factories that use clean energy. By harnessing wind, solar and hydropower, we create Bluebuck products with minimal impact on the environment. In fact, 75% of the electricity used in our Austrian factory and 50% in our Portuguese factory comes from renewable energy sources.
We are also proud that 100% of the electricity used in our London office comes from renewable sources, supplied by Ecotricity.
